Hosts Seminar On The World Of Science

The
Iowa Studies Center at Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC)
is hosting the third of
10 speaker’s series and teacher’s seminars. Ambassador
Kenneth Quinn, president of the World Food Prize, will chair
this third session.
“Double
Talks—The World in Iowa: Past, Present and Future” will
focus on topics such as politics, art, culture, sports and
urbanization in a series of presentations to be held on Friday
afternoons and Saturday mornings from October 2007 through
April 2008.
The
third “Double Talks” event is “The World
of Science: Buzzing & Spring on Iowa’s Rural
Landscape” to be held from noon to 2:30 p.m., Fri., Nov.
30. A separate event, geared toward high school and college
instructors, will be held from 9 a.m. to noon, Sat., Dec. 1. Both “Double
Talk” events will be held in the Bldg. #7 Conference
Center on the DMACC Ankeny Campus. All events are open
to the public.
University
of West Georgia Assistant Professor of History Dr. Joseph Anderson
will speak on “Industrializing the Corn Belt: Iowa
Farms, Technology and the Midwestern Landscape from 1945-1972.” Dr.
Anthony Amato, director of the Center for Rural and Regional
Studies and an Associate Professor of History at Southwestern
State University in Minnesota will speak on “Sweet Memory
of the Sting of the Past: A Cultural History of the Bee.”

events are free, although registration is required. To

Speaker’s Series and Teacher’s Seminars are sponsored
by grants from Humanities Iowa and the State Historical Society,
