DMACC Hosts Seminar on the World of Agriculture

The Iowa Studies Center at DMACC is beginning the first of 10 speaker’s series and teacher’s seminars.  “Double Talks—The World in Iowa: Past, Present and Future” will focus on topics such as politics, art, culture, sports and urbanization in a series of presentations to be held on Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings from October 2007 through April 2008.

The first “Double Talks” event is “The World of Agriculture:  Changes & Challenges in Iowa’s Farmland” to be held from noon to 2:30 p.m., Fri., Oct. 12th.  A separate event, geared toward high school and college instructors, will be held from 9 a.m. to noon, Sat., Oct. 13th.  Both “Double Talk” events will be held in the Bldg. #7 Conference Center on the DMACC Ankeny Campus.  All events are open to the public.

Iowa Farm Bureau President Craig Lang will introduce the presenters on Fri., Oct. 12th.  Presentations will be made by University of North Dakota History Chair and Oral History Review Editor Dr. Kimberly Porter and Purdue University Department Head and History Professor Dr. R. Douglas Hurt.     The events are free, although registration is required.  To register, please contact Dr. Lisa Ossian at (515) 964-6568 or llossian@dmacc.edu.  A lunch is available on Friday afternoons for $8.  The Speaker’s Series and Teacher’s Seminars are sponsored by grants from Humanities Iowa and the State Historical Society, Inc.
