Fall Digital Photography at DMACC

Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) Continuing Education is offering a series of classes on digital photography this fall. The first two classes will teach the must-know tips, tricks, operations, settings and accessories of digital cameras and how to maximize camera usage. Students need to bring their cameras and manuals.

The first class will be for point and shoot cameras. This class will be held Oct. 1 and 8 from 6 to 9 p.m. on the DMACC Ankeny Campus in Bldg. #18, Room 1. The cost is $69. Refer to Course Registration #15156 when registering.

The next class will be for single-lens reflex (SLR) cameras. This class will be held Oct. 15 and 22 from 6 to 9 p.m. on the DMACC Ankeny Campus in Bldg. #18, Room 1. The cost is $69, and it is Course Registration #15157.

Classes on photo enhancement will also be offered. Digital Darkroom 1 (Course Registration #14800) will be offered Mon., Oct. 29 from 6 to 9 p.m. on the DMACC Ankeny Campus in Bldg. #15, Room 8 for $41. This class will get students started using the computer to enhance and improve photos or add special effects. Students will learn to crop, brighten, sharpen and adjust colors in their photos. Students need to bring photos on a CD to class.

Digital Darkroom 2 (Course Registration #14801) will get into more in-depth work using computer software. Students will learn to use special effects, create special backgrounds, make posters and scrapbook pages. A CD of photos will be needed. This class will be held Tues., Oct. 30 from 6 to 9 p.m. on the DMACC Ankeny Campus in Bldg. #15, Room 8 for $41. Digital Darkroom 1 is a prerequisite for Digital Darkroom 2.

The final photography class for the fall will be Photograph Restoration (Course Registration #14802). Participants will learn techniques for repairing, restoring and enhancing scratched, dirty or faded photos. Students need to bring scanned images to class on media such as a thumb drive so work can be saved and taken home. The class will be offered Mon., Nov. 12 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the DMACC Ankeny Campus Bldg. #15, Room 8. The cost is $41.
