CNN Terrorism Analyst to Speak at DMACC

A CNN terrorism analyst, author and producer who has personally interviewed Osama bin Laden will speak at a free event on the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) Ankeny Campus.
Peter Bergen will speak on “Six Years After 9/11: Are We Winning the War on Terrorism?” from 7:30 to 9 p.m., Wed., Sept. 12 in the DMACC Ankeny Campus Bldg. #6 Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.
Bergen is a Schwartz senior fellow at the New America Foundation in Washington, D.C.; an adjunct lecturer in public policy at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard university, CNN’s terrorism analyst and author of Holy War, Inc.: Inside the Secret World of Bin Laden. (Free Press, 2001).
Holy War, Inc. was a New York Times best seller and has been translated into 18 languages.
Bergen’s most recent book is The Osama bin Laden I Know: An Oral History of al Qaeda’s Leader. (Free Press, 2006). CNN produced a two-hour documentary, In the Footsteps of bin Laden based on Bergen’s book. He has written about al Qaeda and terrorism for a variety of publications and has worked as a correspondent for National Geographic television and the Discovery Channel for documentaries on terrorism.
In 1997, as a producer for CNN, Bergen produced bin Laden’s first television interview. He was the recipient of the Leonard Silk Journalism Fellowship 2000 for Holy War, Inc. In 1994, Bergen won the Oversees Press Club Edward R. Murrow award for best foreign affairs documentary for the CNN program, Kingdom of Cocaine.
