DMACC Women's Basketball Players Excel in the Classroom
Posted 07/02/07
The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women’s basketball team concluded the season with successes both on the court and in the classroom.
In figures just released, the DMACC Bears have the highest overall spring semester grade point average among all women’s basketball teams in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference. The 3.40 grade point average was also the fourth highest GPA among two-year women’s basketball teams in the nation, according to the National Junior College Athletic Association. They closed the 2006-07 season among the top ten teams in the nation with a 25-6 record.
“I’m very proud of this team’s effort in the classroom, but I am not surprised,” said DMACC Women’s Head Basketball Coach Steve Krafcisin. “The young women in our program have taken great pride in their achievements in the classroom, as well as on the basketball court. A big part of our team’s success is the positive nurturing environment created by DMACC faculty, staff and the community. This shows the type of quality young women we have and will continue to recruit in our basketball program.
Many of the DMACC women’s basketball players have been inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, which recognizes academic excellence in two-year colleges.
