DMACC West Campus Hosts 3-on-3 Basketball Classic
Posted 05/07/07
West Des Moines, IA — Basketball players from across the state will be showing off their skills and helping to raise scholarship money for Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) when DMACC hosts its third annual Wild, Wild West 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament scheduled for Saturday, July 28. The tournament will be held at DMACC’s West Campus, 5959 Grand Avenue, West Des Moines.
The annual event is a fundraiser for the West Campus’ scholarship program. This year’s goal is $50,000.
“This is our biggest and most important fundraiser,” says Dr. Tony Paustian, provost of DMACC’s West Campus. “Without scholarships, made possible by this event, there are dozens of students who wouldn’t have an opportunity to attend college.”
Paustian says the Wild, Wild West tournament creates a positive economic impact by attracting hundreds of players and fans to Central Iowa. The 2006 3-on-3 tournament raised more than $30,000 for student scholarships.
The event is open to players of all ages and abilities. Teams will be grouped by gender, age, ability, size and playing experience, with each team guaranteed at least two games. The tournament is limited to the first 120 teams.
Registered high school officials will be used for all games.
Custom-made medals will be awarded to the three top teams in each division.
The event will kick off with an opening ceremony at 8 a.m. on July 28 with the first game beginning at 8:30 a.m. Several events will be offered throughout the day for fans and players.
Teams can register on-line at www.wildwest3on3.com. Teams that register before the July 1 early sign-up deadline pay only $60 per team. After July 1, registration goes to $80 per team.
For more information or to participate in the tournament, contact Rick Dawson, (515) 633-2443, redawson@dmacc.edu or Dan Petrak, (515) 633-2419 or dgpetrak@dmacc.edu.
DMACC is committed to educating, training and encouraging success for students of all ages. DMACC is Iowa’s largest community college, annually serving nearly 28,000 students enrolled in credit classes and more than 32,000 students in non-credit programs on six campuses and many other locations across Central Iowa.
