Announces New Carroll Campus Provost
posted 06/28/06
DMACC
has selected Steven Schulz as the next Provost for its Carroll
Campus. Schulz will assume his duties on July 1 when he replaces
retiring Provost Jim Knott.
Schulz has
been working at the DMACC Carroll Campus for the past two years
as the DMACC/University of Northern Iowa (UNI) 2 + 2 Coordinator,
a joint program that allows students to earn a bachelor’s
degree from the Carroll Campus.
“Steve has excellent credentials that will allow him to
continue the tradition of quality and excellence at the Carroll
Campus,” said Kim Linduska, DMACC’s Executive Vice
President of Academic Affairs. “He has strong relationships
in the K–12 school districts, at the University of Northern
Iowa and in the communities that surround Carroll. These connections
will create a collaborative environment for education and economic
development to thrive. Steve is also a talented administrator who
will bring great enthusiasm to DMACC,” added Linduska.
DMACC President
Rob Denson stated, “Steve will be a valuable
addition to the entire DMACC leadership team.”
As Provost, Schulz will oversee a 27,000-square-foot educational
facility and seven programs that have nearly 1,000 students enrolled
each semester. Schulz said one of his first duties will be to assess
the services DMACC provides to its communities and then develop
a plan to move forward.
“DMACC has played an important role in this region for
the past 17 years, and I want to continue supporting those communities
and providing outstanding educational opportunities for students,” said
Schulz, who has been active in Carroll for 15 years. Recently,
he served as the president of the Carroll Chamber of Commerce,
president of the Carroll Area Development Corporation Board and
written a successful grant providing local high schools with $450,000.
Schulz received
his bachelor’s degree from Wartburg College,
his master’s degree from UNI and is currently a doctoral
student at Iowa State University. He has been involved in education
for 23 years and was employed as an instructor, a principal and
a superintendent before coming to DMACC. Schulz and his wife Cathie
have two daughters, Caitlyn and Lindsey.
