Music Program offers a variety of classroom and online classes.
Humanities Core
Courses
Music Appreciation (MUS 100) - classroom and online
A survey of the development of western art music through study
of representative compositions of many periods and styles. Includes
definitions of musical terminololgy and a major emphasis on listening
Music Fundamentals (MUS
102) - classroom
This course introduces students to the elements of music through
performance on recorder and piano. Includes instruction in teaching
the elements of music to pre-school and elementary school children.

Theory
Materials of Music I (MUS
106) - classroom
Music Theory - All aspects of music theory will be introduced
and explored with the experienced music student. Activities will
include ear training, sight singing, keyboard training and written
theory assignments.
Materials of Music II (MUS
107) - classroom
As a sequel to Materials of Music I, this course will examine
music theory in greater complexity and will emphasize the harmonic
aspects of music. Activities will include ear training, sight
singing, keyboard skills and written theory assignments. PREREQUISITE:
MUS 106
Private
Lessons
Applied Voice (MUA 101)
Individual instruction in voice. Weekly half-hour lessons in tone
production, breath control, diction, literature, and stage presence.
Applied Piano (MUA 121)
Individual instruction in piano. Weekly half-hour lessons. Beginning,
intermediate, and advanced students accepted.
Applied Instrumental (MUA 147)
Individual instruction in all instruments. Weekly one half-hour
lessons.
Choral
Ensembles
Concert Choir (MUS 143)
The concert choir is open to all
students. Varied literature is chosen.
Chamber Ensemble (MUS 150)
This course is open to members of the Concert Choir who are selected
by auditioning with the director. Chamber Choir sings a variety
of musical styles, and the music is generally more difficult than
the music in Concert Choir. Prior choir experience is most helpful.
Prerequisite: Audition with Director
Corequisite: MUS 143
