About DMACC
Music Program
Music has always been a part of the
DMACC curriculum. Our Music Classes are
articulated to be accepted by four year institutions, some colleges
accept them as humanities core classes, others as music credits.
Muscially interested students can start at DMACC and take the basics
and transfer to an institution that offers a music degree.
The Music Program is housed on the
Ankeny Campus. The program began with a few classes and a
Con cert
Choir as credit classes. The Music program grew substantially in
the 1980s under the direction of Dr. Virginia Bennett with the addition
of new choral groups. Chamber Choir became a curriculum offering.
Jim Loos took
over as program chair in 1997. Since then the music program
has continued to grow. Music joined the online teaching world
in Spring of 2001 with Music Appreciation. The choral program
has been expanded to include volunteer ensembles, including Ambassadors,
madrigal and show choir when student interest warrants, and DMACC
appella.
