The Dental Assisting Program is a 12-month course of study.  Students begin in the Fall Semester and graduate at the completion of the Summer Semester.  The coursework consists of lecture courses, laboratory courses and internships in dental offices and clinics in this area.   The students are also required to take PSCH101, SPCH110 and COMP117. Completed coursework equivalent to these liberal arts courses will be considered for substitution when transcripts are evaluated.  Upon graduation, the student will sit for the Iowa Board of Dental Examiners’ exam and the Dental Assisting National Board exam. Upon successful completion of the exams, registration with the State of Iowa will be awarded. Being a Registered Dental Assistant is a requirement to be able to practice in the state of Iowa.  A Program Information Brief (PIB) is recommended for anyone interested in this program.
