“Helping underprepared
students prepare, prepared students advance, and advanced students excel.” As a state chapter of the National
Association for Developmental Education, IDEA seeks to improve the
theory and practice of developmental education and the professional
capabilities of developmental educators in Iowa’s post-secondary
institutions. Developmental education is a comprehensive process that focuses on the
intellectual, social, and emotional growth and development of all
post-secondary students. Instructional services include college orientation
and skill-building courses in reading, writing, English language learning,
mathematics, study strategies, and critical thinking. Support services
include assessment of academic preparedness, academic accommodations for
those with special needs, tutoring, personal and career counseling,
collaborative learning groups, computer-assisted instruction, and supplemental
instruction. |
