Sherry Hill SHERRY

Sherry A. Hill
Educational Interpreter

Sherry graduated from the Interpreter Training Program at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa, in 1987 with an A.A.S. degree. Sherry started freelancing for DMACC that same summer. In 1991, she was given the position of full-time staff interpreter.

Lori L. Johansen
Educational Interpreter/Advisor

Lori graduated from the Interpreter Training Program at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa, in 1990 with an A.A.S. degree. Lori has been working for the past 11 years in the public school system with students from K-12. Lori accepted her position as a full-time staff interpreter/advisor in June of 2001.

Educational Interpreter


Lisa graduated from the Interpreter Training Program at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa, in 1998 with an A.A.S. degree.  Lisa has a B.A. degree in Linguistics from Central College. For the past six years, she has worked in the public school system with students from k-12.  Lisa joined DMACC as a full-time staff interpreter in July of 2004.

Where are the interpreters located?

The staff interpreters provide services for all six campuses with their offices being located on the Ankeny campus in building 6 Room 10.

Cell phone numbers are to be used to contact us if you are not coming to class, will be late for class, or for emergencies. For all other reasons, we ask that you call the interpreter’s office number or send an email.

There is a hanging folder in the entry way of room 10 in building 6 that is used as a mailbox for staff interpreters.

Sharon G. Bittner
Director of Academic Support Services

Sharon graduated from Indiana State University with a B.S., in psychology, and earned her M.A., in behavioral psychology from Drake University. Sharon started working for DMACC in February of 2000.

Hollie Coon
 

Hollie L. Coon
Coordinator, Special Needs

Hollie received her B.A. from the University of Northern Iowa majoring in Geography Education and Learning Disabilities. She then earned her M.S.E. from Drake University in Behavior Disabilities and Learning Disabilities. She taught Special Education for 7 years to high school students with severe learning disabilities and behavior/emotional disabilities. She has taught in Texas, Iowa and in Ohio. She joined DMACC in the Spring of 2007.

Mary J. Ocker
Administrative Secretary

Mary started working at DMACC as a tutor to students with special needs in the fall of 1981.  After 23 years and many job changes here at DMACC, she is currently an Administrative Secretary of Academic Support Services.
