It’s interesting that many
grocery stores in HangZhou have two or more stories. Escalators are installed next to see-through
glass front. My favorite two sections
are the snacks and prepared Chinese foods.
They happen to be on different floors.
I might offend some people by saying that there are more snack varieties
in China than in America. Maybe it’s
because China adopted almost all American snacks while kept all the
traditional Chinese snacks. I don’t
think too many Americans willing to try 20 different flavors of dried berries
or tofu cake prepared 20 different ways.
That’s the kind of snacks I grew up with. The Chinese food counter is mesmerizing to
me. There are varieties of Chinese
salads, stir-fries, foods steamed; roasted; cured or fried. They all taste Authentic Chinese. J I always get carried away in those two sections. I took a couple of snapshots while I was
shopping there (the left two).
Even though you can find
everything at the grocery store, many people still visit the farmer’s market
frequently. Nothing beats that beautiful
freshness of newly picked vegetables.
