I went back to China to visit again in May, 2004. There were many more changes in every aspect of life in China in the past four years. But it is finer adjustments and modifications compared to what I saw during my 2000 trip. Most of my students do not know a lot about China as I did not know much about America before I came here. I want to use some space of my website to give anybody interested in China some glimpses of the country.

My sister lives in HangZhou, which is known as paradise on earth in China. It is called so because it has a beautiful lake with many historical sites as part of the city.

Last year, the city spent millions of dollars to drain the lake and clean the bottom before refilling it. The lake has also been widened to create more natural sceneries. In May, 2004, a professor from University of Chicago did a survey and researched on happiness level in many cities in China. He researched on living environment, annual income, education, people’s outlook on life, etc. HangZhou was determined to be the happiest city in China. I am so Happy for my sister that she lives in the Happy City. J

I included a picture of the Mall I liked to shop at, the walkway I enjoyed strolling on, the newer part of the Westlake and the old Westlake.
