It was an exciting semester meeting this group of students on daily bases.  Most of them are mature, positive, motivated and fun-loving.  They came to class prepared.  They always asked quality questions during each lecture.  Many of them shared some of their life experiences or specific clinical cases with me and the whole class.  Those information have enriched my knowledge and will make an impact on my teaching in the future.

During the semester, I nominated Lori Baer and Bobby Edwards for the Academic Excellence Student Award.  While the whole class was impressive, these two students were outstanding in every aspect.  Bobby won the award after intense screening and judging by the Student Action Council.  The whole class applauded him on his achievement.  Both Bobby and Lori deserve to be recognized and praised for their dedication in pursuing higher education.

Of course few experiences can be all that perfect.  I did receive a very harsh e-mail early in the semester from one of the students.  She was bluntly holding me responsible for her poor performance in exams.  The letter did bother me because I felt that my efforts and good intention were not appreciated at all.  But the positive energy from the rest of the class quickly dissipated any trace of discouragement.  It has been a great pleasure to get to know many wonderful individuals in this class.

Like other “A” classes, this group of students left the following advices for future students.

The class is challenging but worth it.  The class notes are very important and lecture is also very informational.  I suggest having Chemistry I & II as pre-requisites.  It will start your semester off with review.

                                                                                    ---------------- Heather Anderson

I loved this class!  It was hard and took a lot of study, but also very interesting.

Mrs. Moss has very high standards, but considering we’re going into a health related field----we need to be more careful & exacting.

Her presentation in class truly mirrored the exams so there weren’t any weird surprises on the tests.  We even know exactly what our essay questions were—so there was a good heads up to gain points.  The extra credit on every test also helped grades.

                                                                                    ---------------- Lori Baer

-         Be prepared to write a lot of notes

-         Study notes carefully

-         Making charts from notes taken, keep organized

-         Listen carefully for explanations

-         Ask questions if  not fully understanding information

-         Tough class- a lot of time is needed to study notes

---------------- Cristine Baker

This is a tough class, but if you put in the work, it will be worth it.  Microbiology really comes alive in class with a great teacher.  It was hard, but quickly became my favorite class.  I spent many, many hours studying, so good luck!

                                                                                    ---------------- Katrina Bowers

This is a terrific class.  But be prepared to work.  What I have found to be most effective in preparing for exams is to review lecture notes immediately after taking them and then look over them again often.  There is too much information given to try and cram your studying in the night before the test.  Be disciplined and you will get a great deal out of this class.

                                                                                    ---------------- Bobby Edwards

It was a very enjoyable class.  It was very informational & a fun atmosphere.  The study guides are very helpful but make sure you know your notes.

p.s. make sure you know how to properly dispose of slides on your lab practical day!

                                                                                    ----------------- Jenny Fagan

To succeed in Mrs. Moss’ Microbiology class, attendance is essential.  Being there for lecture gives you the opportunity to ask questions which she is always willing to answer.

                                                                                    ------------------ Nancy Hampton

Microbiology with Mrs. Moss is a tough class!  You must study on a regular basis in order to do well!  Even though this is a tough class, you will have fun in class and your will learn a lot!!  Class discussion is encouraged during lectures and Mrs. Moss will be more than happy to help you understand the material.

Patience is highly recommended during labs!

                                                                                    ---------------- Emily Keyte

This class requires a lot of dedication and hard work.  You have to be at every class lecture or lab to be able to do well in the class.  Sometimes that is not enough.  You have to study a lot.  My advice is if you are going through family, money, or relationship problems, don’t take the class.  I realized it affected my school work a lot.

                                                                                    ---------------- Rachel Lowman

It’s a tough class, but you learn a lot.  Make sure you review your notes as much as possible.  Put all used slides in the sharps container!

                                                                                    ---------------- Meagan Roorda

My best advice would be to make sure you study your notes along with the study guide Mrs. Moss provides.  The is a tough course, but it is a very informative class.  Mrs. Moss is a very knowledgeable teacher and enjoys input from her students.

When taking notes from the overhead, also pay attention to what Mrs. Moss adds to her lecture.  Often she will have that information on the tests or as bonus questions.

Take the class seriously and you will definitely get out of it what you put into it.

                                                                                    ---------------- Lori Tallman

This is a fairly hard class.  Students should be prepared to attend class everyday.  Extra credit assignments are helpful and appreciated.

                                                                                    ---------------- Regina Wallace

Be sure to come to class everyday and take notes.  If you go to all labs and test good, you will be fine.

                                                                                    -----------------Ashley Welsh

Microbiology is a tough course.  It is also very interesting and fun!  Mrs. Moss has very high standards for her students.  It is necessary to spend a generous amount of time studying, but it is not impossible to obtain an “A” if you put your mind to it.

                                                                                    ------------------ Megan Werts

This class was difficult and requires a lot of studying.  Coming to class everyday is important in the long run.

I would not suggest taking this class unless it is absolutely necessary.
