SDV 171
SDV 171: Library Instruction
Have a class that requires a research project, such as Psychology, Sociology, Speech, Composition, etc? Unsure of how to complete a college-level research project?
SDV 171: Library Instruction is designed to help students learn to successfully complete academic research. Taking a problem-based approach, this course will walk you step-by-step from selecting an appropriate topic to preparing to write your paper.
This course covers such topics as evaluating and critiquing information; creating an effective strategy for academic research; determining when to use a book, a library database, and a Web site; recognizing plagiarism and how to avoid it; constructing citations.
This course transfers to Iowa State University directly in place of their Library 160 course, which is required of all undergraguates at ISU. Many other 4-year colleges and universities will accept this course in place of their library research course, as well as a general elective.
Multiple sections of SDV 171 are offered each semester at the Urban Campus. Additional sections may be available at the Ankeny and Boone campuses. You may check the availability of this course on the DMACC Course Schedule page.
