Background
Information:
Hi! I am retiring as of December 31, 2011, as a full-time
instructor at DMACC’S Urban Campus, where I’ve taught for the last 36 1/2
years! I have a BS degree from the University of Nebraska/Lincoln
in Elementary Ed (I taught 6th grade for 3 years), an MA degree from
the University of New Mexico, and a Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts. I taught composition, literature (American,
British, Contemporary, African-American, and Women Lit), Speech, and 2
different Film courses. I do SERIOUS
yoga, and I’m, hopefully, going to continue studying Spanish. My husband of 45 years also taught English—at
Simpson College, in Indianola, Iowa; we have three children and three young
granddaughters. We spend our summers in
a cabin on a lake in northern Minnesota. Being a wife, mother, and teacher have
brought me great pleasure and satisfaction—in spite of all the ups and
downs. While I am very sad to be
retiring, my husband and I will be busy going back and forth between Corvallis,
Oregon (where our daughter; her husband, who is recovering from a bone marrow
stem cell transplant; and two of our granddaughters live), and Des Moines and
northern Minnesota.
I
will continue to have a DMACC email address (see below), so feel free to
contact me, especially if you require a letter of recommendation.
