Title of Your Paper

Your paper should look a lot like this example.  I need to find the information up in the upper right hand corner, so that you can get credit for your work and I don’t have to hunt for your name in my grade sheets.  I also need to know what paper you are submitting because I allow re-writes, and I will have many submissions at various times.

You should always title your papers.  The title gives your audience an indication of what to expect in your paper.  Titles are usually not longer than four or five words.  Make them pertinent to your subject and not like a Calvin Klein commercial.

Your document should be written in a type that is easy to read.  I’m getting really old, and some of those pretty fonts are nasty for my old eyes.  I prefer Times or Arial, but if you have a favorite that is easy to read, go ahead and use it.  I’ll complain if I have problems.

You should also double-space your papers.  The extra space gives me room to write comments and mark punctuation.  Do NOT force justify your papers.  By forcing your paper to have a straight edge on the right side, you also force the computer to add odd spacing between your words.  I like big margins (1-1 ½ inches are great!) because I need room to write comments next to your text.  Do NOT use block paragraphs (hitting another return between paragraphs).  This method makes huge gaps in your paper (four lines).  You can just indent each paragraph as I have done here in this example.

Most importantly TYPE your papers on a computer and SAVE the files.  Remember that you are responsible to keeping backups of your files so that lost files are not a problem when the due date arrives.
