Course Description & Credits |
http://www.dmacc.edu/courses/crsrod.asp Introduces current standards of HTML, XHTML and CSS. Students will code HTML and CSS web pages, test them in browser and publish them to a web server. Page layouts will use various CSS techniques. Tables and forms will be used as well. A current version of Dreamweaver will be used to build more complex pages.

Course Overview |
This course focuses on the technical coding of webpages. The students will code and create web pages using HTML and CSS. This is the basis for all web pages. |

Study Tips |
Stay current. Everything you do in the first chapter you will do on the last day of class. Do not get behind.
Practice! This is field where you learn by doing. The more you do the better you will get.
Read the chapter before class. The classroom examples will make more sense and you can ask questions. I will not cover all of the content of each chapter during class. It is expected that you have read the material and understood it. Tests will cover material from the text even if not covered during class. |

How the Course Fits into the Curriculum |
This is the key class for Web Development. All web pages and all tools that interact will web pages are built using the concepts of this class. Most of the other Web Development (WDV) courses will require this one. |

Software Applications |
You may complete this course without any special software. The classroom examples will introduce and use a current version of Dreamweaver. It is not required to complete the course.
Students may find having their own copy of the Adobe Creative suite to be an advantage. You can purchase this software from the DMACC Bookstore at a student discount. This software is used and required in most of the other WDV courses.
I would recommend waiting until later in the course to buy the software. |

Grading Criteria |
Chapter Assignments: · Each chapter will have one or more exercises assigned from the text. Each exercise is worth 5 points · Chapter exercises must be posted to a/the student server to be graded. · Chapter exercises are due by the end of indicated day
Exams: · There will be a two quizzes and a final exam · Each exam is assigned 50 points · Exam dates will be announced ahead of time. · Makeup dates will be considered if you contact the instructor.
Lab Projects: · There will be two in class lab projects · Each project is assigned 50 points · Lab Project dates will be announced ahead of time. · Lab Project makeup dates will be considered if you contact the instructor.
· This is a comprehensive final project · It will be a commercially oriented multi-page website · Students will find and select their final project with approval from the instructor · This project is assigned 200 points · Failure to complete the final project will result in an F for the course · For more information WDV101 Final Project
The final course grade will be determined by a total of earned points. The instructor reserves the right to assign ‘+’ and ‘-‘ grades as appropriate.
