Background: My given name is Homer Douglass Allen Hill. I prefer Homer. I was born and raised in Mississippi during the height of the Civil Rights Movement. I know Jim Crow intimately. Thirty-one years of my life went to military service and I served during two wars (Vietnam and the 1st Gulf). I am married and enjoy life as thoroughly as I can as much as I can. I have no time for people who do not appreciate the value and sanctity of life.

 

Credentials: I have a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education and a Master’s degree in History from the University of Southern Mississippi. I am ABD from Duke University. I taught history at the University of Iowa for one year and have been teaching American history at Drake since 1997. I have taught here at DMACC-Urban since 1998. My specialty areas are American History with emphasis on African-Americans and Women; Southern History and History of the Civil Rights Movement. I am currently completing requirements for an MAT and license to teach secondary school.
