Deborah Bell Dental Assisting Program Health and Public Services |
The Dental Assisting
Program is a 12-month course of study.
Students begin in the Fall Semester and graduate at the completion of
the Summer Semester. The coursework
consists of lecture courses, laboratory courses and internships in dental
offices and clinics in this area. The
students are also required to take PSY111 or PSY 102, SPC101 or SPC 126 and ENG
105. Completed coursework equivalent to these liberal arts courses will be
considered for substitution when transcripts are evaluated. Upon graduation, the student will sit for the
and
go to the program’s website.)
The Dental Assisting
Program now has two scheduled program starts.
Fall semester start begins in August and the spring semester start
begins in January. If you are interested
in enrolling in this program on a full-time or part-time basis, apply to DMACC
as soon as possible. There is a wait
list for full-time enrollment but do not let that detour you. The wait list fluctuates as people make other
plans or defer their enrollment to a later time. There is no wait list for someone interested
in taking this program on a part-time basis.
If you choose to be a part-time student, the length of the program would
be extended to two years. If you are
interested in this program, call Sheri Husak for more information. Sheri is our program counselor for
prospective students. She will help you
with any questions you might have concerning enrolling. If you have questions concerning the program
itself, contact Deborah Bell.
The Dental Assisting and
Dental Hygiene programs have two courses in common. DHY 161 Oral Radiology and
DHY 221 Dental Materials. If a student in the Dental Assisting Program
successfully completes these two courses, these courses would also be applied
to the Dental Hygiene curriculum under certain guidelines. Thus, if entering the Hygiene Program, these
courses would be eliminated from the course requirements. Successfully completing the Dental
Assisting Program prior to entering the Dental Hygiene Program has proven to be
of benefit by creating a groundwork that becomes an asset to the student’s
success. Many Dental Hygiene graduates
have first completed the Dental Assisting Program.
The Dental Assisting
Program strictly follows the guidelines of DMACC’s Bloodborne Pathogens
Exposure Control Plan. See the Dental
Assisting Program’s website for an explanation of this control plan @ www.dmacc.edu.
