Senior Engineering Technician in our Mason City or East Dubuque, Illinois office location. Position reports to Department Head. Lead designer responsible for drafting civil engineering related drawings using MicroStation. Duties include ensuring proper drafting standards are followed, developing topographic maps based on electronic survey data, generating digital terrain models and developing design details based on sketches and parameters defined by an Engineer.
Design related-tasks include performing quantity calculations, geometric calculations, roadway layout, grading plans, utility layouts, subdivision layout and developing 3-D models using GEOPAK. Duties also include providing project manager with designer comments and updating project team with job-related correspondence. Design related tasks would be under the supervision of an Engineer.
The position provides support to other CAD staff, but does not have any supervisory responsibilities. Ability to communicate effectively and follow directions a must.
Job Experience and Qualifications:
Qualified applicants would possess a 2-year technical degree with 5+ years of experience in civil engineering technical work. Must have demonstrated working knowledge of MicroStation/GEOPAK and/or AutoCAD. Experience with Iowa and/or Illinois land development, municipal, county road system or Iowa Department of Transportation projects beneficial.

SURVEY PARTY CHIEF at Cerro Gordo County
Location: Mason City
This is a Survey Party Chief position that performs as the lead worker on the District Land Survey Crew at the District 2 office in Mason City. This employee records the field notes of the survey data and coordinates the daily activities of the survey crew as they are engaged in surveying for the purpose of determining and locating land corners, lot corners, right of way and topographical features. Employee will be required to troubleshoot and lead the use of Global Positioning, data collection, total station surveying, and precise leveling equipment. An understanding of the principles of geometry, trigonometry and computer operation is a requirement. These duties will require the employee to work outdoors in all types of weather and to lift and carry heavy objects (50 lbs.).
License: A valid driver's license must be possessed and maintained.
