Please feel free to contact me at any time via Skype ( brad.duerson1 ) or by DMACC e-mail. I would like to keep in contact with you and so that you can feel like you have gotten to know who you are talking with or e-mailing to, here is my introduction.
First comes the formal stuff like my professional background – then a little more personal information.
I came to DMACC in 2005 from the Department of Homeland
Security where I was the Iowa training manager for airport security since its
inception after 9/11. Prior to 9/11, I was the Global Operations Training
Manager for a German firm that made paper packaging machines. I enjoyed
several years teaching as an Assistant Professor of International Business at
Southern Utah University. And prior to that, I served in management
positions with Nissan in
I was born in the frozen tundra of Wisconsin, and inherited
genes that bled Green and Yellow. I am a
baby boomer with teenage roots in the late 70’s – and yes -
is
not far from reality in of life in the 70’s in Wisconsin.
I became a ski patroller at 16; my heart is really in the mountains. So I headed out West to college at age 18 to enjoy the skiing in the mountains of Utah and football at BYU. Go Cougs!
After serving as a missionary for two years in
While attending school at BYU-Hawaii on Oahu’s North Shore, I discovered that there was something even better than skiing, surfing or economics. That is where I met my wife. Yolanda is from the Philippines. We have three children BJ, Brittany and Brian. My oldest son is a safety engineer at a nuclear plant clean up facility, my daughter is in dental school at the University of Iowa, and my youngest son is on a mission in California.
We came to Iowa from Wisconsin when 9/11 put me out of a job, but it gave me one as well and brought me to Iowa. Teaching is great – not as much $green$, but I have discovered that life ain’t always greener in someone else’s swamp. I can’t imagine doing anything else than what I am doing now. Teaching is an awesome and fulfilling career.
I hope you will catch my passion for economics. We are living in constantly changing economic times, and a good understanding of economics will be very beneficial to all you do in the future.
I am glad to have you in class!
