Your grade in this class will contain these components:

Exams 50% of overall grade

Homework/Projects/In-Class work 40% of overall grade

Comprehensive Final Exam 10% of overall grade

GRADING SCALE:

100% - 94% = A

93% - 90% = A-

89% - 87% = B+

86% - 84% = B

83% - 80% = B-

79% - 77% = C+

76% - 74% = C

73% - 70% = C-

69% - 67% = D+

66% - 64% = D

63% - 60% = D-

BELOW 60% = F

EXAMS:

Exams are scheduled after every two chapters. We will have a review day the day prior to each exam. Review days are meant as a time to clear up any problems and questions. No new material will be presented on a review day. Each exam is worth 100 points. If, you miss taking an exam for whatever reason, you may take your exam within two school days, however, you will have 10% deducted off of the top of your score. (This means that your highest score would be a 90%.) Failure to make arrangements to take your exam within the allowed time period will result in a 0% for that exam.

The reward for getting good test scores throughout the semester is that at the end of the semester if you have an A average (between homework (40%) and exams (60%)) you will not need to take the final exam. Work hard so that you don't have to take the final!!

Cheating will not be tolerated. If you are caught cheating you will be subject to college reprimand. This is my cheating policy: If I suspect you of cheating you will be given a zero on that exam - no retake allowed - and NO partial credit will be given on any problem for the remainder of the semester.

HOMEWORK:

Homework from the book will be turned in on exam days. Homework will be assigned out of each section every day. Stay caught up with your homework assignments so that you can ask questions about them in class. Simply writing down the answers for a problem is not sufficient to get credit for that problem. SHOW ALL WORK!!

You will also be doing projects throughout the semester. Projects will have specific due dates, they will not necessarily be due with the text homework. Information about these projects will become available as you need it! We will have MANY in-class problems and assignments. Problems given during class will be turned in that day, and they will not be problems that you can make up.

NOTE: Homework MUST be stapled, homework must have your name and location on the top right corner. Homework must be neat, and the problems in order. I do not have staplers in all of the rooms, by the way.

LATE HOMEWORK: For every day that homework or projects are turned in late points will be deducted. If it is a homework assignment which is late, 10% per school day will be deducted. If it is a project which is late, 10% per day will be deducted.

Cheating on any homework assignment is not tolerated.

ESSENTIAL EQUIPMENT:

You must purchase a calculator. I recommend that you purchase a Casio FX-300. The cost of this calculator is between $10 - $18 (at Wal-Mart). We will be learning how to do several neat things on your calculator throughout the semester. I will not supply students with a calculator during an exam. A student may NOT borrow another student’s calculator during an exam. It is my policy to NOT allow the TI-92 calculator in this class.

Later in the semester you may need to have a protractor and a compass. The total cost for both of these devices is around $2.50 (for the really nice ones!). I will let you know when you need this stuff.

FINAL EXAM:

The final is comprehensive. There will be a review at the end of the semester. It is not possible to retake the final. As stated earlier, if you have an "A" average between homework and exams by the end of the semester, you will not be required to take the final exam. Make this a goal!

SCHEDULED NO CLASS DAYS:

  1. There is an incredible amount of papers associated with this course...best get organized!!!!!!!!!!!!!
