Students:
Would you like some helpful hints on how to survive
a physics class taught by Nancy Woods?
Would you like the “scoop” about how to be successful in physics at the
Boone Campus DMACC? Here are some
uncensored comments (and Nancy’s responses) from students who have preceded
you.
A
former student of mine has these things to say:

Comments from
students in Physics 121 Fall 2000:
“To be successful in this class you must be willing
to spend a lot of out-of-class time on homework. Always do all of your homework because it is very beneficial when
it comes to tests! NEVER
procrastinate! Do a little every day
and it isn’t that bad.” Ben
“To future physics students: The main things to remember are attend class
and keep up on your homework. All the
material needed is covered in class, but the only way you will do well on the
exam is by doing all of the homework.” MC
“Don’t waste your time doing all the chapter
homework problems. It takes an enormous
amount of your time and is worth so very little when it is figured into your
final grade. Just do what you need to
do in order to do well on the exams.”
JAB
NOTE from Nancy: You too
should question the logic of the above statement. In essence this person is saying, “Don’t do your homework, and
you should do what it takes to do well on an exam.” As your instructor, in my opinion, if you want a good exam score,
then you have to do your homework.
Logically, this also implies that if you don’t do your homework, then
you won’t do well on an exam!
(Contrapositive statements are logically equivalent from basic geometry
grade 9.) So, if you believe Nancy’s
premise, then the above statement is not logical!
