Classroom conduct

Participate positively in your educational process: Students who are experiencing difficulty with the course should meet with me during office hours or ask before or after class to arrange an appointment.

Complete a Withdrawal: Students who stop coming to class must officially withdraw.  Failure to do so may result in an F on the student's transcript.

Electronic Devices in Class Policy: Cellular phones, pagers, CD players, radios, and similar devices are prohibited in the classroom and laboratory facilities without permission of the instructor.

Complete the course: An incomplete grade is given only to those students who are unable to complete the work due to serious illness, hospitalization, or a death in your immediate family AND who have only a small portion of course work to complete; for example, one or two tests.  I will not give an incomplete for poor attendance or poor skills.

Missed exams

You have a schedule that shows the test dates.  You will take the tests on these dates and times unless you make arrangements with me before the date of the test.  Sickness will require a doctor's excuse to make up a test.

Late assignments

I will not accept late assignments.  No assignment will be accepted if it is late.

Extra credit

I do not give extra credit assignments.

Study expectations

This course is a 60 hour classroom course.  It is four hours per week over 15 weeks.  Two hours for every class hour should  be spent working on this course outside the classroom.  This means a minimum of 12 hours per week must be directed to this course to be successful.

We will be together in class 2 hours per week.  It is impossible to pass this course by working on the assigned material during our class sessions as the only time spent on the assignments.  10 more hours per week must be completed online and on the applications.

Academic dishonesty

“See DMACC Educational Services Procedures ES 262 VII. A. and B” for information on plagiarism, cheating, information about appeals procedures or reference publication that addresses this information in detail.”

To paraphrase, if you are found cheating on a quiz, exam or lab work, the first occurrence will generate a zero on the quiz, exam or lab.  The second occurrence will result in formal college action.

Course content

Graded Exercises: You will do the step-by-step instructions in your text before you do any of the end-of-chapter work and turn it in for credit.

Preparing for Examinations: Use the following Web sites to study for tests: Office Applications is www.scsite.com/offxp/exs.cfm and Discovering Computer is http://www.scsite.com/dc2008.

Lecture: You will read each assigned project and chapter prior to the lecture.  Lectures will be short, to the point, and will discuss the highlights of the project or chapter for that week.  Plan to spend approximately six to eight hours each week working on laboratory assignments.

Assignments: Make sure your name and exercise number appear in the footer or header of every document for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. For Access, follow the instructions on your cover sheet.  Do not staple different assignments together. Your work will be submitted with a cover sheet, an example of which can be found at Cover sheet, if you are submitting paper.

Disorganized Assignments: Pages out of order, mislabeled, unreadable, etc. will receive a grade of No Credit.  Sequence assignments according to the order you printed them in the exercise.

Quizzes: May be given over either the lab projects or Discovering Computers 2007 without notice.  These cannot be made up if missed.
