PSEO F.A.Q.’s
How do I get the textbooks I need for class?
Some high schools maintain a library of books for DMACC classes. Check with your guidance counselor to determine if textbooks are available. If your school does not, you will need to make plans to purchase your books from the bookstore on the campus where your class is being held.
If you need to buy books:
- After registration, obtain a Postsecondary Bookstore Purchase Authorization voucher from your high school counselor. This must be completed by the student.
- Bring the completed Voucher to the DMACC Business Office/Student Accounts staff, who will sign the Voucher, authorizing the purchase of books, (required books only-supplies, materials and optional books are not covered).
- The completed/authorized Postsecondary Bookstore Purchase Authorization Voucher needs to be taken to the bookstore on the campus where your class is being held. To expedite the process:
- Take a copy of your class schedule with you to be certain you purchase the correct course material information.
- A photo ID is required at the time you make the purchase.
Is a student participating in PSEO able to use DMACC’s library?
YES! A photo ID is required to receive a library card. The card is required to check out materials from the campus libraries.
What should I do if I am sick or I can’t go to class?
Students who will be absent from class should notify their instructors ahead of time if possible. Students are responsible for all make-up coursework. Contact each instructor after an unplanned absence, as soon as possible. Ways to contact instructors will be included in the syllabus. Instructor contact information, including: name(s), office locations, office hours, and phone numbers. Transportation to and from the college is the responsibility of the students and their parents or guardians.
How much studying will I have to do?
One of the biggest differences between high school and college coursework is the amount of outside-of-class homework, (reading, research, etc.). It is important to keep up with reading assignments and not fall behind. Comprehensive exams covering all material previously discussed or assigned up to the point of the exam are more common in college than in high school. A general rule of thumb is that for every hour spent in class, a minimum of two hours outside-of-class study time is required. Consider high school class schedules, extra-curricular activities, part-time jobs, and other commitments before the semester begins and make adjustments accordingly before possible conflicts or problems arise.
When will I know my final grade?
Approximately one or two weeks after the end of each semester, students are sent a grade mailer with their final grade. Grades are also mailed to the high school counselor.
How will I know about class cancellations due to bad weather?
If a weather related emergency develops requiring a school closing, local radio and TV stations will be asked to announce the closing starting at 6:00 a.m. for day classes and 4:00 p.m. for evening classes. The fastest way to find out if school has been canceled is to go to www.dmacc.edu or call the main campus phone numbers and listen to the messages that will be updated immediately if school is closed. Be aware that even if your high school has cancelled classes, DMACC may not have and attendance policies will remain in place.
