DBR Helps Companies Through Waste Exchange Program

Matt Nieswender from Barker Lemar & Associates of Des Moines called Dennis Hayworth of DMACC  asking about outlets for used office furniture.  Barker Lemar had moved recently into a new office in West Des Moines.  They had 5 desks, cubicle storage shelves, tables and wastebaskets, they did not want to throw away or move to another location.  They had tried some of the local office supply stores with no success.  Dennis listed these items as available in the Iowa Waste Exchange database and promised to search for possible outlets.  While he was working on the material, a new client company of DMACC named Hilhouse Custom Manufacturing from Knoxville, a manufacturer of custom fitted bed sheets of all types, was discussing expansion needs.  One of their needs happened to be cheap office furniture.  The bell went off for Dennis and the referral was made between Hilhouse Custom Manufacturing and  Barker Lemar & Associates.  With a little sweat equity Hilhouse acquired some office furniture for reuse at very little cost.  Barker Lemar & Associates was able to save $70 in disposal cost, plus additional hauling cost. They also were able to turn over their building to the landlord, saving rental costs.

Companies interested in the Iowa Waste Exchange can contact Dennis Hayworth at dahayworth@dmacc.edu or 515-964-6346.
