DMACC Offers Course In International Business

 DMACC is pleased to offer a dynamic new course in International Business starting in the Summer of 2005.  Titled BSAD 255, the three credit hour course is designed for students and practitioners of international trade to understand the complexities and dynamics of global international trade.  The course will examines the role of government, cultural, economic, legal, political, social, and the technological environments and innovations affecting  international business.  Topics covering marketing, management, human resources, logistics and distribution, supply-chain management, technology, foreign exchange and other ‘hot-button’ issues will be discussed.  Ways to determine how to make Iowa’s economy globally competitive will also be discussed at length.

Courses are scheduled to be offered at the DMACC Ankeny campus and the John Pappajohn Campus in downtown Des Moines.  Accelerated, customized program with special focus on any given area, can also be considered. DBR Adds Safety Instructor to Its Team

In a response to a growing demand for safety training, DMACC Business Resources (DBR) has hired Ann Wolfinger as a trainer and coordinator of safety classes. Along with her teaching duties, Ann will also consult with businesses on regulations and compliance with OSHA standards. 

Ann has worked in facility management and safety for 15 years. Ann is an OSHA General Industry Outreach trainer and has completed training in AC/DC basic electricity, 30-hour Construction Safety and Health and NEC electrical requirements for electricians. Ann has also worked in the legal and accounting fields.

DBR Partner's with GATC to Offer Training to Printers

DMACC Business Resources is partnering with the Graphic Arts Training and Consulting Group (GATC) to offer a series of state-of-the-industry classes specifically designed for the printing and graphic arts industry. This comprehensive training will be available at a fraction of the normal cost thanks to a business network training project.

Recently, GATC has updated their mobile prepress lab in order to supply the latest equipment and software to employees.  In addition,  new pressroom courses are being offered.  And, because of grant funds,  DMACC can offer 3-hour classes for $50 and 6-hour classes for $88 per person.    

These state-of-the industry classes are available only to those        companies who pre-register and signup for the business network         training project. Companies interested in sending employees to the   training  should contact Glenn Volkman at gavolkman@dmacc.edu or 515-964-6468.    


DMACC Business Resources Joins
Safety and Health Alliance

In order for DBR to best serve area companies with their safety training needs, a new alliance between the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Des Moines Area Community College has been formed.

 

 

 

This alliance will provide expertise to develop training and education programs for students from businesses. The alliance will be addressing safety and health related topics such as electrical safety, hazardous materials and working in confined-spaces, as well as general OSHA compliance topics. Information will also be provided about recognizing and preventing workplace hazards and developing ways to communicate safety information to employers and workers through the media, electronic assistance tools, and web sites.

Dennis has been the Iowa Waste Exchange Area Resource Specialist at DMACC since February 1999. He assists central Iowa industries in diverting their solid waste by-products from the landfill through conducting on-site waste assessments, identifying landfill alternatives, and providing information and assistance towards implementation of waste diversion practices. Dennis works with the Iowa Waste Reduction Center to offer free, non-regulatory and confidential environmental assistance to small companies in Iowa.

Dennis holds a B.A. in Business Administration with twenty-five years experience in the waste management and recycling fields. Dennis’s previous work experience includes working for Waste Management of Iowa and BFI Waste Systems specializing in waste and recycling system design and development, recycled goods brokering, waste coordination and service for large special events, fleet management, and marketing.
