EMS - Emergency Medical Service Training Programs
There are currently four levels of training in the Emergency Medical Services field and all are available at DMACC:

First Responder
is a 60-hour three-credit emergency care course, which emphasizes life threatening emergencies, wounds, fractures, medical and environmental emergencies, and other emergencies. Students must be 17 years old.

EMT-Basic is a 126-hour, six-credit course that provides greater depth and more skills related to emergency medical and trauma situations. Students must be 18 years old, a high school graduate or hold GED Certificate, and have verification of current successful completion of American Heart Association Health Care Provider or Red Cross Professional Rescuer course.

EMT Intermediate
is a four credit course. Students must hold current certification as an EMT Basic in the State of Iowa and have verification of current successful completion of American Heart Association Health Care Provider or Red Cross Professional Rescuer course.

EMT Paramedic
involves three courses totaling 19 credits. Students must hold current certification as an EMT Basic in the State of Iowa and have verification of current successful completion of American Heart Association Health Care Provider or Red Cross Professional Rescuer course.
