UNI/DMACC 2+2 Program
The
UNI/DMACC 2+2 Program is a self-contained, degree granting,
off-campus elementary education and/or early childhood education
teaching preparation program. The program has a specific focus
on rural education and features the use of technology in the
instructional delivery system. It is the state of Iowa's only
fully collaborative teacher education degree granting program
between a community college, DMACC, and a regent's university, University
of Northern Iowa.
MISSION:
Provide a
quality elementary education teacher preparation program for place
bound students in west central Iowa.
To develop
a "model program" for the delivery of a professional
sequence that clearly illustrates the values of institutional
collaboration.
To demonstrate
how technology can be an integral part of a distance learning
delivery system.
FACTS:
The Program
was developed with assistance of seed money from the Fund of Improvement
of Post-Secondary Education (FIPSE).
The Program
has been in full operation since 1994.
The partnership
between DMACC and UNI has become a model for the use of collaboration.
The Program
has clearly demonstrated that technology can be used to provide
access and opportunity to place bound students. Many of the professional
courses are offered through the interactive fiber optics Iowa
Communications Network.
The Program's
graduates are helping fill the need for rural teachers in West
Central Iowa.
