DMACC Women's Basketball Team Gets By SWCC, 65-44

Sophomore Carrie Wood of Martensdale scored 11 points and sophomore Joscelyn Coleman of Shenandoah added 10 points to lead the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women’s basketball team to a 65-44 win over Southwestern Community College (SWCC) Jan. 11 at Creston.

The Bears opened up a 29-19 halftime advantage and coasted in the second half. With the win, DMACC improved to 12-3 overall and 2-1 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). The Bears got nine points from sophomore Ashley Hagedorn of Irwin and eight from sophomore Sam Thrapp of Davenport. Sophomores Ann Walker of Exira and Lacy Stevenson of Knoxville added seven points each to the DMACC attack.

The Bears matched SWCC on the boards with 31 rebounds. Freshman Jordan Wood of Monroe led DMACC with eight rebounds and Coleman came away with seven. Thrapp dished out a team-high four assists and Hagedorn helped the Bears to a 14-11 advantage in steals with six.

With the loss, SWCC fell to 12-3 overall and 0-5 in the ICCAC.

DMACC steps away from ICCAC play with a home game against the Simpson College junior varsity Jan. 14. Game time is 1 p.m. at the DMACC gymnasium.
