DMACC's Carli Bunning Commits to Minnesota-Crookston

April 14, 2011

Carli BunningSophomore Carli Bunning of Boone has signed a national letter of intent to continue her education and basketball career at the University of Minnesota-Crookston.

Bunning (pictured here with DMACC Head Coach Steve Krafcisin), a forward on the Des Area Community College (DMACC) women’s basketball team, also considered Mayville State University in North Dakota and Baker University in Kansas before deciding to attend UM-Crookston.

“I liked the coaches, the girls and the atmosphere,” Bunning said. “Once I stepped on campus I felt like this was the next home for me.”

Bunning helped DMACC to a 22-11 record this past season. She averaged 7.8 points and 5.9 rebounds a game as the Bears compiled an 8-8 mark in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) and reached the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI championship game where they lost to Iowa Central Community College.

Bunning finished the season with 257 points, 196 rebounds, 34 steals and five blocked shots. She was named to the Region XI third team.

“This gives Carli some recognition for coming in and working hard and using DMACC for what it’s intended to be used for,” DMACC women’s basketball coach Steve Krafcisin said. “She had a fairly good freshman year and really responded this year. To be in a position to get a scholarship to a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II school is really a great honor. UM-Crookston has a need for her so it’s a great thing for her. I’m really proud of her.”

UM-Crookston is a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

“It’s a really tough conference so I have a lot of work ahead of me,” Bunning said. “I’ll be working against some taller girls, but I think I can do it.
