The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has named Katlyn Wood of Monroe, a sophomore forward on the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women’s basketball team, a third-team All-American.
The honor caps a sophomore season for Wood that included being named to the Region XI All-Region First Team and the Region XI All-Tournament Team.
“That’s awesome,” DMACC women’s basketball coach Steve Krafcisin said of the honor. “We’re really happy for Katlyn.”
Wood led the Bears to a 22-11 record in 2010-11, including an 8-8 record in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). The Bears reached the semifinals of the Region XI Tournament where they saw their season end following a loss to Iowa Central Community College (ICCAC).
Wood averaged 13.4 points and 8.5 rebounds a game this past season, leading DMACC in both categories. She made 165 of 375 shots from the field, including 21-of-71 from 3-point range, and was 92-of-117 at the free throw line. Wood finished the season with 281 rebounds.
Wood plans to transfer to a four-year college or university where she plans to continue her education and play basketball.
