Sheldon High School volleyball players Rachel Ihnen, (front row, left) and her twin sister, Elizabeth (right) have each signed a national letter of intent to play volleyball next year at DMACC. The Ihnen twins have long been affiliated with Sheldon volleyball. Both are four year letter winners and starters. Elizabeth was MVP on the team for three years, was a two-time varsity captain and was a four-time First-Team All-Conference selection. She was a two-time First Team All-Review selection and a Second Team Des Moines Register All-State selection, as well as a First Team All-State selection. Elizabeth was a Class 2A State All-Tournament Team selection, a Class 2A Runner-up, IGCA Senior All-Star Team selection and a CNOS All-Star team selection.
Rachel Ihnen was named to the All-State Honorable Mention team in 2008 and 2009, named to the All-Review Team during her junior and senior years, was a three time All-Conference selection and co-captain in 2009.
“We are looking forward to having Rachel and Elizabeth on the team,” said DMACC Head Volleyball Coach Patty Harrison. “Both are four-year starters on a high school team that has advanced to the state tournament. Their leadership skills will be counted on next year.”
The Ihnen’s join the Bears, who have advanced to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II National Volleyball Tournament for the past four consecutive years. The Bears finished fifth in the national tournament and had a 44-9 overall record in 2009.
