Four members of the Des Moines Areas Community College (DMACC) women’s volleyball team have been named to the Region IX-B All-Region Team.

Sophomore Mikayla Overturf of Nora Springs, freshmen Maggie Vondrak of Sioux City and Eilzabeth Ihnen of Sheldon were named to the first team. Sophomore Natalie Weis of Bettendorf was named to the second team.
“I feel very excited and pleased,” DMACC volleyball coach Patty Harrison said. “The girls worked very hard and competed very hard. It’s well deserved. This shows the outstanding ability our team has.”
Vondrak led the Bears in hitting with 383 kills. She had 63 blocks and compiled a hitting percentage of .182. Overturf finished the season with 305 kills and a .176 hitting percentage. She had 47 blocks on the season. Ihnen hit .236 with 293 kills and led the team in blocks with 90.
Weis closed out her sophomore year with 1,224 assists, ranking her 21st in the nation in National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II. She averaged 8.6 assists per set.
Joining Overturf, Vondrak and Ihnen on the first team were Xiao Liang, Mi Le and Kellisha Harley, all of Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC). Second team members in addition to Weis included Jessica Lerdal and Darcy Nelson of Southeastern Community College, Danika Stindtman of ILCC, Elizabeth Honke and Jessie Timmins of Marshalltown Community College and Charmin Anderson of North Iowa Area Community College.
DMACC finished the season with a 26-15 record. The Bears finished Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) play with an 8-1 record, tying ILCC and Kirkwood Community College for first place in the league. DMACC advanced to the finals of the Region XI-B Tournament where it lost to ILCC, 3-0.
