Ali Miner to Play Softball for DMACC

Ali MinerAli Miner of Waukee has signed a national letter of intent to play softball at Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC). Miner, seated is pictured here with mother Lynne Miner. Standing behind Miner is Coach Ligouri, Waukee Head Coach Carrie Embree and father Ed Miner.

Miner, a multi-position player, is a three-year starter for Waukee High School and has garnered all-state, all-district and all-conference honors during her prep career. She was named to the Class 4A Third All-State Team as a freshman when she hit .384 and drove in 29 runs.

DMACC softball coach Bob Ligouri said Miner is an outstanding defensive player. Last season she compiled a fielding percentage of .914 with 22 putouts and 42 assists.

“We are very happy to have Ali Miner sign with our DMACC program,” Ligouri said. “She has played in a great high school softball program. She is very athletic, has good speed and has played a number of different positions. She has earned academic honors and has been involved in community service projects in Waukee.”

DMACC announced last November that it is adding softball to its intercollegiate athletic program and named Ligouri as the head coach. DMACC will begin softball action with the 2011-12 school year.
