St. Cloud, Minn. - St. Cloud State University men's basketball coach Kevin Schlagel has announced the signing of Grant Burns of Monroe to a letter of intent for the 2008-09 season.
Burns is a 5'9" point guard from Des Moines Area Community College in Boone, Iowa. He was recently named a first team National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II preseason All-American for 2007-08, and his community college team is currently ranked third in the nation. Last season, Burns was named All-Conference and MVP of the Region XI Community College Tournament. He led DMACC to the national tournament and was named All-Tournament and won the "Best Small Man" award. Burns averaged seven points and eight assists per game last season and set school records for steals with 99 and assists with 271. He is a graduate of Prairie City Monroe High School and the son of Brenda and Wayne Burns of Monroe, Iowa.
"Grant plays with so much passion and is such a great competitor that our fans will love to watch this young man play," said Schlagel. "He is all about winning and making his team better. A point guard that loves to push the ball in transition, Grant will fit nicely into our style of play."
St. Cloud is an NCAA Division II school in St. Cloud, Minn. They will be joining the Northern Sun Conference for the 2008-2009 season.
