Three Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) baseball players were selected in the recent Major League Baseball Draft.

Pitcher Mitch Mormann of Manchester was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 20th round.
Pitcher Patrick Cooper of Danville, KY was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 34th round.
Relief pitcher Cole Nelson of Edina, MN was selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 45th round.
Mormann, who set the all-time DMACC single season record with 12 saves last year, was a starting pitcher this year who set the DMACC single season record with 10 wins en route to a 10-3 record with a 3.40 earned run average.
The 6’ 3” Cooper had an 8-1 record with a 3.48 earned run average for the DMACC Bears. He set a single season record with 106 strikeouts this year. Opponents hit only .204 off of Cooper for the entire season. Cooper was also named to the First Team All-American Squad.
The 6’ 7” Nelson had a 4-2 record with a 3.19 earned run average in 28 relief appearances for the Bears. He also increased the velocity on his fast ball from 74 to 93 miles per hour.
The three sophomore pitchers helped the DMACC Bears finish with a team record 55 wins and only 11 losses, a single season record .833 winning percentage and a 103-29 record in their two seasons at DMACC.
Mormann has signed a national letter of intent to play baseball at perennial baseball powerhouse Louisiana State University next year. Cooper has signed to play at Bradley University. Nelson has signed a letter of intent to play baseball at Auburn University.
