The Hort Club encompasses all students enrolled in the Commercial Horticulture Program; however, all DMACC students are invited to attend meetings and participate in club activities. Club members enjoy a monthly luncheon (potluck) meeting accomplishing many tasks, such as planning and implementing their sales of house plants in the late fall, poinsettias at Christmas time, roses for Valentine’s Day, and spring greenhouse sale of annuals, perennials, bulbs, grasses and more that they have raised.

A large display at the Iowa State Fair in the Agriculture Building is planned and created by Hort students. The students also enjoy socializing and having fun as the months pass quickly. The hours of work are rewarded with a summer and fall, three day, two night trip to the commercial horticulture industries where the students have an opportunity to observe where their education will lead as well as gaining employment possibilities.
