In the DMACC Distance Learning department we believe that in
order to be an effective online instructor, a person needs to experience an
online course from a student’s perspective. For this reason, online
training is now being offered online!
See below for more details.
- All instructors teaching an online or blended course must have
completed the online training course.
- Participants will receive a Certificate of Completion. A
copy of the certificate will be turned into the Distance Learning
office. Prior to submitting an online grant request or teaching an
online course, a Certificate of Completion form must be on file in the DL
department.
- WebCT manuals and supplies will be distributed to participants prior
to the course.
- The online training course is broken down into 6 sessions over 7
weeks. Participants are expected to follow the given course schedule.
- Participants are expected to spend at least 3-5 hours per week
doing course work.
- Participants are expected to be actively engaged in course
activities, readings, and discussions.
- Participants will complete the following by the end of the
course:
- A letter of introduction for your students
- A syllabus that sets the expectations for
students engaging in the online, blended, or web-enhanced course
- An online learning module that includes
goals, a learning sequence of one or more interactive activities, and an
integrated strategy for assessing student learning.
- Each participant will be enrolled in a blank course as an
instructor. For collaboration purposes, each participant will be
enrolled into their classmates’ courses as students.
- Participants are encouraged to use classmates as a collegial
network for continued advice and support.
- Participants have the option of earning 2 graduate credits
through Drake
University by taking
this training. Regular Drake tuition will apply. More information
will be sent to participants prior to the session.
The best way to learn
something new is not only to see it or read about it; but also to experience
it, reflect on your experience, apply it, receive feedback, and learn from that
feedback.
