Final Project - Project Requirements

Objective: 
This project will allow the student to show a working knowledge of basic webpage design and development, HTML, XHTML and CSS.  The project will be a multi-page commercially oriented website. The project should be selected by the student based upon their interests or for a business interest they are familiar with. This is an opportunity to create a project that can be added to a student's work portfolio that will demonstrate the student's ability and creativity using E-Commerce tools and techniques.  Students may use a vareity of software development tools, Dreamweaver is the recommended tool.  The following lists describe the features required in the project.

PURPOSE AND ORGANIZATION: (75 points)

This is the starting point of your project. Please describe your project and what you intend to do with the website you are developing. The storyboard may be hand drawn or created using one of many drawing applications. Please keep in mind that this is just a beginning framework for your project.  Your project will most likely change as you develop it.  Changes are acceptable and expected.  These changes do not have to be reflected in this document. 

  1. Objective Statement for the website as a whole. (What will it attempt to do and why?) 
  2. Website storyboard/outline of the whole website. (This may change/expand as the site is developed.)
  3. Objective Statement for each page of the website. (What will the page attempt to do and why?)
  4. Identification of Target Market for the Website. Discuss how these will impact the content, layout, design and structure of your website. (Basic Demographics, location, special features/characteristics, etc)

REQUIRED TECHNICAL Features: (175 points)

BASIC STRUCTURE

  1. A home page named index.htm
  2. At least four additional pages
  3. A common navigation structure on all pages
  4. Project stored in a folder with your initials and project name
  5. All images stored in an images subfolder in your website folder
  6. Proper use of parent/child folders as needed

HTML/XHTML

  1. Proper page setup, tag formatting and structure to comply with XHTML standards
  2. Must be validated XHTML standard
  3. Proper use of hyperlinks, including
    1. at least one link to one or more external websites
    2. at least one link to an email address
  4. Proper use of tables for data organization or page layout and organization
  5. At least one form asking for contact information, name, address, city, state, zip, phone, email.
  6. Appropriate use of images, including size, and ALT attributes
  7. Good use of H1-H6 elements
  8. Appropriate use of the ALT attribute on elements
  9. Meta tags for author, descriptions, keywords, etc.

CSS

  1. All presentation such as colors, sizes, formats, fonts, bold, underline, etc. controlled using CSS concepts
  2. Page layout and organization using CSS techniques
  3. Proper use and examples of subgroup selectors, (id, class, contextual)
  4. An external CSS style sheet for the entire site
  5. One or more internal/embedded CSS style sheets as appropriate for your web application
  6. Examples of inline CSS commands as appropriate for your web application

Class Presentation (50 points)

Extra Credit Features:  (20 points maximum)


Project Grade:
When your project is complete please post the website to the student server.  The project is based upon 300 points.  The project grade is based upon the following scale.

25% Purpose and Organization (75 points)
60% Technical Features (175 points)
15% Website Demonstration to Class (50 points)
