Watts to Play Golf at DMACC

Mackenzie WattsMackenzie Renee Watts (second from right) of Huxley, has signed a national letter of intent to attend Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) and play golf for the women’s golf team. Shown with Watts are her parents, Tim and Connie Watts, left, and DMACC women’s golf coach Larry Briley.

Watts is a senior at Ballard High School in Huxley and has been playing golf for several years. She has helped the Bombers to the Class 3A Girls State Golf Tournament the past three years. Ballard finished fourth in 2008, second in 2009 and seventh in 2010.

Watts finished fourth in the individual competition at the 2010 state golf tournament and was recognized with all-conference, all-district, first-team all-tournament and all-state honors. Her 36-hole score of 165 was 41 strokes better than her performance at the 2009 state golf tournament.

Watts spends her summers practicing and competing in Junior PGA tournaments, including the Iowa Sectional Championships.

Watts has also participated in volleyball, softball and basketball at Ballard High School and remains active in dance, her church youth group, Students Against Drunk Drivers (SADD), band, homecoming committee, post prom committee and 4-H. She has served as an instructor for youth golf clinics and has volunteered at the Huxley Prairie Festival. She also played a key role in reviving the Ballard Dance Team after it was eliminated as an activity from the school budget.
