Freshman Karlie Warehime of Gowrie scored 18 points as the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women’s basketball team dropped a 74-73 decision to Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) Feb. 19 at Estherville.
Freshman Sam Thrapp of Davenport and sophomore Katlyn Wood of Monroe added 12 and 11 points respectively for the Bears, who fell to 20-9 overall and 8-7 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).
ILCC led 48-37 at halftime and held on for its 14th win of the season against 16 losses despite being outscored 36-26 in the second half. The Lakers are 7-9 in the ICCAC.
Freshman Ann Walker of Brayton scored nine points for DMACC and sophomore Carli Bunning of Boone and freshman Joscelyn Coleman of Shenandoah had eight and seven points respectively. Coleman grabbed 11 rebounds, leading the Bears to a 47-35 advantage on the boards. Thrapp dished out five assists.
DMACC was 24-of-58 from the field, including 4-of-13 from 3-point range. The Bears made 21 of 24 free throw attempts. Warehime went to the line eight times and made seven.
The Bears close out the regular season Feb. 23 against Iowa Central Community College (ICCC). Game time is 5:30 p.m. at the DMACC gymnasium. The Tritons bring a No. 7 national ranking into the contest.
