Wood's Double-Double Lifts DMACC Women by NIACC, 56-42

Sophomore Katlyn Wood of Monroe scored 10 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lift the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women’s basketball team to a 56-42 win over North Iowa area Community College (NIACC) Feb. 12 at Mason City.

The victory was the 20th of the season for the Bears against seven losses. They improved to 8-5 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC), good for third place in the league.

Freshmen Sam Thrapp of Davenport and Joscelyn Coleman of Shenandoah scored eight and seven points respectively in the win and sophomores Caitlin Axland of Irwin and Heidi Manken of Ogden had six points apiece as did freshman Karlie Warehime of Gowrie.

Wood and Thrapp had three steals each and sophomore Carli Bunning of Boone and Coleman grabbed seven and six rebounds respectively as DMACC had a 40-30 advantage on the boards.

The Bears had a 27-21 advantage at halftime and maintained control of the game throughout the second half.

DMACC hosts fifth-ranked Kirkwood Feb. 16. Game time is 5:30 p.m. at the DMACC gymnasium. The Eagles are 20-6 overall and sit atop the conference standings with a 12-1 record. They defeated the Bears 68-59 on Jan. 19 at Cedar Rapids.
