Sophomore Katlyn Wood of Monroe scored 10 points and hauled down 13 rebounds as the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women’s basketball team defeated Ellsworth Community College 59-54 Dec. 18 at Iowa Falls in the Bears’ Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) opener.
Twelve of Wood’s 13 rebounds came off the defensive glass. She also had three blocked shots.
Freshman Lacy Stevenson of Knoxville scored nine points, all on 3-point baskets. Sophomore Carli Bunning of Boone, freshman Sam Thrapp of Davenport and freshman Ashley Hagedorn of Irwin tallied eight points each as DMACC improved to 12-2 for the season with its fifth consecutive victory.
DMACC led 29-22 at halftime. The Bears went 4-of-9 from 3-point range and 8-of-13 at the free throw line in the second half to maintain control of the game.
DMACC is idle until Jan. 5 when it travels to Marshalltown to face Marshalltown Community College.
