Des Moines Roosevelt High School’s Breonnhia Bailey (second from the right in the front row) has signed a national letter of intent to play volleyball at DMACC. Shown with Bailey in the front row from the left are her brother, Joshua Winters, her mother, Adrienne Williams, and her father, Willie Chism. In the second row from the left are DMACC volleyball coach Patty Harrison and Des Moines Roosevelt assistant volleyball coach Andrea Ruddy.
Bailey is the fourth player to commit to the DMACC volleyball team for the 2012-13 school year. Previous commitments are Sara Jesse of LaPorte City Union High School, Olivia Sulentic of Truro Interstate-35 High School and Kenna Moechnig of Chatfield (Minn.) High School.
“Bre has the skills we are seeking and we are looking forward to her making contributions to the DMACC volleyball team right away,” DMACC volleyball coach Patty Harrison said.
Bailey helped the Roughriders to a 24-13 season in 2011. She finished the year with 183 kills in 322 attempts for a .422 hitting percentage. She also compiled a .913 serving percentage with seven ace serves. Bailey had 44 blocks, including 37 solo blocks, and 37 digs.
Bailey was named to the All-Central Iowa Metro Conference (CIML) second team and also earned honorable mention in basketball. She is a three-time academic letter winner in volleyball and lettered in basketball the only year she played the sport.
Bailey’s other activities include the National Council on Youth Leadership, Science Bound, Upward Bound, Gear Up and Senior Board.
