Johansen was a state volleyball participant as a junior for Dallas Center Grimes. She was named to the All-Conference Honorable Mention team as a junior. She was also named to the All Dallas County Second Team and led her team as 2010 Conference Champions. She was nominated as the most improved player on her squad by her teammates. During her senior season, Johansen was named a unanimous selection to the All-Conference First Team. She was also named to the First Team All-Dallas County Team, named to the All-District Team, was team captain and nominated as the Most Valuable Player by her teammates. She lettered in volleyball as both as junior and senior.
In addition, Johansen excels in track where she is a four-year letter winner who participated in the state track meet as a sophomore, junior and senior. She also helped Dallas County Grimes to become District Track Champions in 2010 and 2011.
She was also an academic All- Conference selection in volleyball and track for four years.
“Kaitlyn has lightning quick reflexes and has a knack for being in the right place on the court,” said DMACC Head Volleyball Coach Patty Harrison. “We are looking forward to utilizing her skills for the DMACC Bears volleyball team this coming fall semester.”
Schmidt joins the Bears, who have advanced to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II National Volleyball Tournament four of the last five years. The Bears had a 26-15 overall record in 2010.
