Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women’s volleyball player Liz Schreck of Carroll has given a verbal commitment to play volleyball for the Kennesaw State University (KSU) Owls located in Kennesaw Georgia about 20 miles north of Atlanta. Schreck will have two years of eligibility remaining for the Owls.
“To go from second team All State, All Conference Most Valuable Player and Best Offensive player at Carroll Kuemper High School to first team All Region XI in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) and to be named a NJCAA All-American is a testament to her and what Liz can accomplish,” said DMACC Head Volleyball Coach Patty Harrison.
Schreck, who was recruited heavily coming out of high school, chose DMACC over Iowa Central Community College and Simpson College. “This is a great accomplishment for DMACC and the Lady Bears volleyball program that a young woman’s dreams of continuing her education at an outstanding university and playing NCAA D1 volleyball with an athletic scholarship can come true at DMACC,” Harrison said.
Schreck was co-captain of the Lady Bears and helped lead the team to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II National Volleyball Tournament, where DMACC finished tenth in the nation. The Bears ended the season with a 36-9 record. “Liz has a strong sense of determination, and as an outside hitter, she will get a lot of opportunities at KSU to swing at the ball,” said Harrison. “KSU will get a player who is highly motivated, enthusiastic, an excellent student and a superior individual.”
Schreck is the daughter of Randy and Diane Schreck of Carroll. Schreck is the second member of the 2006 DMACC volleyball team who will be playing Division I volleyball next year. Ashley Bayer of Albia has signed a national letter of intent to play at Eastern Kentucky University next fall.
