Clark Sets New School Record at NJCAA National Champoinships

Freshman Katie Clark of Gilbert set a new Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) school record for the women’s cross country team while competing in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I National Championships Nov. 13 at Spartanburg, S.C.
Clark’s time in the 5K (3.1-mile) race was 20 minutes, 45 seconds, placing her 113th in a field of 287 runners. Her time broke her school record by 49 seconds. Clark set the previous school record of 21:34 at the Dutch Invitational Sept. 4 at Pella.
“Katie did a great job,” DMACC cross country coach Jim Dose said. “It was a great day with beautiful weather and she stepped up and did a great job.”
Florence Ngetich of El Paso (Texas) Community College was the overall winner. Her time was 17:16.
Clark qualified for the NJCAA Division I National Championships at the Region XI Championships Oct. 29 at Council Bluffs where she placed 12th and earned all-region honorable mention recognition.
